A Conversation With Julie Yang Candidate to Montgomery County Board of Education

On Wednesday May 18th, we hosted a live conversation with Julie Yang, candidate to Montgomery County Board of Education.
 

Candidate for Board of Education, Julie Yang, was trained as a teacher with a Master of Education and has taught all three levels of schools during her time working for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). She created many initiatives such as Junior Moving Forward Seminar Series, Career Seminar Series, College Nights, SAT Initiatives, and Opportunity Knocks Career Fair. Julie currently serves on the HBCU Fair Planning Committee and has helped many students become Gates Scholarship finalists, Questbridge finalists, and gain acceptance into prestigious colleges or find top-rated career paths. Julie also founded the Village Initiative to connect special education families with both non-profit and school services, and advocated for the establishment of the Asian Pacific American Student Action Group (APASAAG).

Julie has two children, a son who is currently a senior at Winston Churchill High School, and a daughter who graduated from there in 2019. For many years, she has served as a home room parent, team mom, been multiple PTA committee chairs on multiple occasions, worked as a school cluster rep, and girl scout troop leader. In the past, Julie served as a mentor for the Leo Club and is the current mentor for Junior Reporters Club, and a 4 H community service club.
